What do you love about design?
I love that design can make a positive difference/impact in peoples lives. It enables people to come together, to collaborate, listen and learn from each other.
Why do you enjoy working in design education?
I have had the privilege of being mentored by strong female designers in Canada and Australia, who have helped shape me into the designer and person I am. With over a decade of industry experience I wanted to give back to the design community. For me diving into a teaching is the best way I know how. I can’t wait to work with students but most importantly learn, listen and engage with them.
What keeps you busy outside of Shillington?
Outside of Shillington I spend most of my time outdoors. I love planning adventures in the bush, whether it is a multi-day hike or touring on my bike. When I can you will find me running around the tan as a guide for athletes with vision impairment (proud member of Achilles Melbourne).
What or who are you loving right now?
Right now and forever the work of Jan Gehl, but also Studio Enness, House of Darwin, Studio Dumbar and Local Peoples.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
A variable font that likes to move, change and adapt. Such as Aktiv Grotesk.
What’s your favourite blog?
I have many favourites for my architecture fill I read Dezeen, for everything local The Design Files and Craft Victoria (keep up to date with exhibitions and workshops).
