Mags Straatman is a London-based Senior Graphic Designer with 10 years experience in data visualisation, editorial design, branding and printmaking working for brands such as Lexus, Adidas, Daylesford and the National Maritime Museum as well as small start-ups and charity work.
What do you love about design?
The freedom it gives you to be able to visualise your ideas and thinking.
Why do you teach?
I know how hard it is to get into the design industry and I love to help be part of getting people who are passionate about design the best chances going into it.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
I focus a lot on my side hustle Good Day Printing. I love anything print so I started this business purely to get away from the screen and it pretty much got out of hand after that.
What or who are you loving right now?
I am obsessed with children’s books at the moment! Some of my favourite children’s books illustrators at the moment are: Phoebe Wahl, Melissa Castrillon and Sandra Dieckmann.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
Comic Sans. Because I tend to be the odd one out.
What’s your favourite blog?
Picturebook Makers! But I also spend way too much time on Pinterest.
