Learn from designers with industry expertise.

Design turns the mundane into something that’s visually stimulating, making even a walk to the corner shop interesting.

Head of Experience

Clay Allison

Upon graduating in Leeds, Clay Allison worked as a creative arts technician in further education, and has also worked in galleries and event curation across the grey English Midlands. Clay also has a passion for photography—and loves the act of bringing life’s mundane ‘non-events’ into light, and turning them into something that has purpose and meaning. He has also worked for online music and culture magazine Far Out. Clay loves seeing a student’s journey and post-Shillington job progression—though from meeting them for the first time all the way through to their first design role.

What do you love about design?

It serves a great purpose, allowing us to live our lives. It’s everything around us. Design turns the mundane into something that’s visually stimulating, making even a walk to the corner shop interesting.

Why do you enjoy working in design education?

I love that way it allows me to meet people from so many different walks of life, the conversations I have with them wanting to learn about Design, the backgrounds they’re leaving behind and the enthusiasm they show in wanting to change their careers.

What keeps you busy outside of Shillington?

Keeping away from things that don’t gouge my eyes out with excitement.

What or who are you loving right now?

Ed Templeton—a hero in every aspect of the word.

If you were a typeface what would you be?

FS Hackney—it does the job and it just happens to be the best area in London.
