Learn from designers with industry expertise.

I love that design amplifies ideas.

Graphic Design Teacher

Lizzie Curtis

Lizzie Curtis is a London-based designer and teacher with a background in illustration. She’s spent the last seven years in branding, managing projects across print and digital, with clients in a broad range of sectors — from charities to tech to finance. In her spare time she freelances as an illustrator and designer. She loves living in London, riding her bike and geeking out about design.

What do you love about design?

I love that design amplifies ideas. I’m really excited when a good idea gets engagement and traction as a result of good design.

And there are so many different parts to play in the design process—so much to explore, plus interesting people to meet on the way.

Why do you teach?

I teach so I can learn. I am inspired by my colleagues and students and I love being in a rigorous learning environment where play, experimentation and process are central.

Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.

Outside Shillington, I work away on various personal side projects (one being a detective agency, another a project for Plastic Free July) and I take on select freelance branding, illustration and web projects for small, ambitious companies.

What or who are you loving right now?

Webflow, the no-code web building platform. They empower designers to build amazing websites and champion diversity in the tech and design industries.

If you were a typeface, what would you be?

GT Flexa from the Swiss type foundry Grilli Type. I love its serious attention to detail, but that it’s also a bit mad.
