Marketing & Communications Specialist

Laura Carrick
Originally from Tasmania, Australia Laura Carrick has made the move to New York as our Marketing and Communications Specialist. Laura is a Shillo-grad after completing the full-time course in Melbourne and has spent several years working in the creative industry as a photographer, creative producer and in marketing management. This role at Shillington is her dream job—combining her love for design and accessible pathways to education in her favourite city in the world.
What do you love about design?
Everyone deciphers design differently even if the intended message has the same outcome collectively – I think it’s a really cool insight into how everyone’s individual brain works. We all design our own worlds every day.
Why do you enjoy working in design education?
I love constantly learning and evolving and helping others do the same. Shillington nurtures a creative space for inspiration and learning that is unique in both its teachers and its students.
What keeps you busy outside of Shillington?
Life! Photographing everything I see, explorations into nature, seeing live music with mates, wandering around the city, traveling when I can. And I am forever hunting down the best vegan spots to wine and dine.
What or who are you loving right now?
Rediscovering my love for printed materials like art magazines, photography books and zines. It’s easy to get caught up in the digital realm, however nothing beats the fine art of print.
What’s your favourite blog?
It’s a long list—but in my current rotation is AIGA – Eye on Design + PRINT.PM.
