Graphic Design Teacher
Manchester
Ed Baptist
Originally from London but now teaching in Manchester, Ed Baptist has worked across the design spectrum, from advertising to fashion, interiors, environmental graphics and wayfinding, strategy and innovation; and he loves it all. Ed is always excited about helping others learn and grow through communication and creativity.
What do you love about design?
I love the variety and beauty. I love that we get to play our part in communicating on behalf of businesses, brands and causes way bigger than ourselves.
Why do you teach?
It’s weird because I hated school but I love learning! I think its a shame when a fascinating subject is presented poorly. I’m passionate about design and communication and love helping people grasp new concepts and skills. Teaching is super rewarding.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
I’ve been everywhere, man! Advertising, in-house for a fashion brand, freelance, strategy & innovation; but just before Shillo I was working with the awesome folks over at NoChintz. They’re an interior design company who launched a graphics / branding department. So I was working in print and web but also getting my designs made into bespoke wallpaper, routered into two metre high oak posts, illuminated way-finding signage and bunch of other fun crazy stuff.
What or who are you loving right now?
Riding my new bike! And the art of Brendan Monroe.
If you were a typeface what would you be?
Oh man, in my dreams I’d be FS SIENNA for sure. So classy and 25 years in the making… I mean come on!
What’s your favourite blog?
Honestly, Instagram is my source of ever changing content. So much good art and design from every corner of the world.
Teaching is super rewarding.
