What do you love about design?
I love how design completely shapes our entire world and can transform the way we look, feel and act. Being able to transform a business or space gives me an overwhelming sense of pride and fulfilment.
Why do you teach?
I have always loved teaching people something that I am so passionate about. I used to be a scuba instructor and an outdoor activity instructor for the same reason. So being able to extend my love for design the same way feels not only natural but very fulfilling.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
I started out my career as a fashion designer and received a fashion design degree at Nottingham Trent in 2011. After a couple years of interning and setting up my own company, I knew fashion wasn’t where I belonged. When I met my fiancé, a Shillington grad, I decided to change careers. After studying at Shillington I went straight into freelancing and contracting. I quickly landed a job at a branding and retail design agency in West London where I became the Lead Graphic Designer. I have always freelanced alongside my full-time job and recently decided to set up on my own. I now work from home in my little garden office with the help of my cat. I predominantly work on branding, illustration and packaging for small businesses and startups.
What or who are you loving right now?
Really loving illustrator David Doran at the moment. His use of colour and composition in his illustrations is just perfect.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
I would have to be a handwritten typeface. Hard to pick just one but at the moment I’m feeling like FLOOD—bold, creative but friendly.
What’s your favourite blog?
The Dieline—I’ve worked on a lot of packaging recently and The Dieline is an amazing place to see what’s going on in the industry and get inspired.
