What do you love about design?
I love that it’s everywhere. You can’t escape it (whether it’s good or bad design). I also like that as a graphic designer we have the ability to contribute and add to an environment in a positive way.
Why do you teach?
My career started as a design teacher, I then left and crafted a career in the design industry. A part of me has always craved returning to teaching and I think Shillington is a great place for me to balance having one foot in the industry and one foot teaching the next generation of designers. Not to mention students always have a unique perspective.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
I have 10 years design experience under my belt ranging from being a teacher to an Art Director. I currently run Faber & Lo, a design studio that I set up with my business partner Mary, 2.5 years ago. Our primary focus is helping businesses craft their brands, along with this we have also started to focus on packaging design.
What or who are you loving right now?
I am loving design couple Leta Sobierajski and Wade Jeffree. They always think of unconventional solutions and like to twist the lines between art and design.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
Argh, tough one. I’m quite rigid but I can also be a bit fluid too. Probably Helvetica.
What’s your favourite blog?
Currently really digging Font Journal Review, an in-depth study into individual typefaces.
