Where do you find your inspiration?
Each and every letter for my Letter Bug project is made for a specific client. They come to me with a person in mind and we discuss what that person likes and what they might find amusing or fun. Often my clients will have no idea what they want, which makes it all the more fun for me! For example, I’ve got a hedgehog letter with leaves caught on his spines H coming up soon. Or, I created a Nimbus 2000 and wizard hat letter for a Harry Potter fan. I even tried to pitch how important Narwhales are the other day! It’s all a bit mad, but essentially it’s great fun working with people who want to give their loved ones a special present. My favourite letters are the more graphic ones like the magpie and the zebra letters.
What do you love about being a designer?
I love what I do because its so varied. The people I work with and the challenges I come up against—there are many! I learn new things all the time, either creative tricks or business ones. From new materials and colours to new tricks in Adobe Illustrator, it really is a vast landscape in which to learn new things with awesome people.
Why Shillington?
I was always dubious about a three year university course. I just wanted to get down to it, work really hard and get on with working. Shillington was the only place that really gave me that opportunity. Shillington was, and is the only place that delivers what they promise. They teach you graphic design, the skills, the programmes with conviction and heart.
