Sydney Ligouri is a designer, illustrator, and entrepreneur with a passion for education. She received her BFA in Illustration from Parsons The New School for Design. Sydney has worked in a variety of design environments from boutique branding agencies, to start-ups, to in-house at global corporations. She is also the co-founder of two of her own start-ups: RookieUp and Letterly. Sydney has been in New York for over ten years and spends her free time getting involved in the local Burning Man arts community.
What do you love about design?
Design provides a logical method for solving visual problems in storytelling, digital experiences, and analog experiences, while also allowing for experimentation, discovery, and play. Plus, it’s fun!
Why do you teach?
I’m so excited to see people’s eyes light up when they figure out how to solve design problems, and watch them discover new skills and talents.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
I’ve worked at a boutique branding agency, a tech start-up, and a corporate publishing house, so my experience is quite diverse. I’ve also co-founded two of my own startups: Letterly, which is a hand-written letter delivery service, and RookieUp, an online mentorship platform connecting aspiring creatives with experienced mentors for 1-on-1 video chats.
