What do you love about design?
I’ve always been a bit of sucker for good design. I’ve always taken notice of what things look like and wondered and discovered why they look that way—from the font on Motorway signs to my favourite album covers and everything else in between.
Why do you enjoy working in design education?
Design is somebody’s creativity and imagination made physical and I think that’s really cool. It’s really exciting to be involved in design education and it means I’m playing my part in allowing future designers to realise their thoughts and show their designs to the world.
What keeps you busy outside of Shillington?
A bit of everything, really! I’m always making the most of wherever I am—searching out the best buildings (I am partial to a nice bit of Brutalism), exhibitions and shops with a film camera in hand. I also love food, so if I’m not at the above, you can find me in restaurants, the kitchen or pouring over cookbooks.
What or who are you loving right now?
I’ve spent the last five years living in Birmingham so I’m going to have to go for some Brummies. I’m really loving sign and mural painter Seven 9 Signs, you can barely turn a corner in the West Midlands without seeing his work, and Provide, who’s creating some amazing graphic work inspired by the city.
