What do you love about design?
Typography, first and foremost! I’m fascinated with how letters look and how they evoke feeling through subtle nuances.

I love igniting passion for design in others—I vividly remember my teachers who did the same for me. There is much to be said for teachers who love what they teach.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
I’ve worked locally and internationally in design roles, both print and digital, and have a specialist background in typography. After training and working as a font designer at Dalton Maag in London, I returned to New Zealand to combine my passion for letterforms with branding. I now work at my collab Faber & Lo, specialising in brand development.
What or who are you loving right now?
Branding projects by Studio South are incredible. So polished.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
I’d love to be anything like Suisse Sans, but realistically there’s a smidge of playful chaos to accommodate … I’m more of a Domaine of sorts.
