What do you love about design?
For me the power of design is communication. It’s not just about being beautiful and of the moment, it’s about connecting with the viewer and delivering information to them in a way that engages, excites and provokes a reaction.
I love the way a simple mix of colours, words and images can stir emotions.
Why do you teach?
I’m always keen to challenge myself and be around people who challenge me. Teaching is a great way for me to help others achieve what they want whilst also challenging me to stay relevant and focussed.

I started designing because I was in bands and all the artwork at the time was shit. So rather than searching globally to find a designer to do our posters and EP artwork I picked up the mouse and did it myself.
After a couple of years I chased the dream and went to Uni whilst also producing artwork for bands and promoters.
I then went into the world of web design, then social media, then finally came back round to brand.
I spent nearly seven years working in London with agencies and clients direct and finally returned to Manchester to focus more on my own work.
What or who are you loving right now?
There are a lot of great studios popping up in Manchester over the past few years which I love to see but the work I really dig at the moment is coming from Europe. Trapped in Suburbia, Werklig and Snask—the rock and rollers of design.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
I’d have to be the Freight family. Solid everyday but with a little flare for special occasions
What’s your favourite blog?
Why? It’s really refreshing to see some celebrate the idea not just the visual
BP&O. Richard gives great insight into the finer details of the projects
Brand New. Although I find the comments infuriating as everyone has an opinion even though they know nothing about the journey.
Sorry, I know you only asked for one.
