Graphic Design Teacher
Maaya Lad is a Creative Designer based in Manchester. She has 10+ years experience in the design industry. Even though she has a digital background her passion is Illustration. Her style is beautifully detailed with her love of Indian heritage within her style. She is passionate about diversity and is a big advocator of this within her designs and illustration. She loves travelling seeing new places. She loves a good coffee and being in nature to find inspiration from the landscape.

I love that you can be so expressive about design in the simplest ways. Getting your message across can be so powerful and you can create a whole new community.
Why do you teach?
I want to be able to share my knowledge of design and working in the industry to help students have a better understanding of what it is like being a designer.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
Outside of Shillington, my career started at Manchester School of Art where I studied Design and Art Direction. This where I learnt the world of craft within graphic design understanding screen printing and bookbinding methods.
I have been working in design for 10+ years now and worked in many design studios. My passion is illustration so I’m currently pushing this side and seeing where it takes me. I freelance at an agency in Manchester called Feed.
What or who are you loving right now?
HateCopy—she is an amazing artist that creates a funny yet charming illustrations that depict Asian/Indian life.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
Bebas Neue. It’s a modern typeface that looks cool whatever you do with it.
What’s your favourite blog?
It’s Nice That has a large collection of design dictionary, but also shows upcoming artists.
