Kieryn Humphries
Kieryn Humphries has had a varied career as a creative. Initially working as a graphic designer, she soon made the transition into advertising and art direction. Her career has seen many highlights including working with Luke Lukas to craft the bespoke Flight Centre typeface, during her time as creative director. More recently she’s transitioned yet again into strategy, which brought this Brisbane girl to Melbourne. Kieryn now teaches full time, a passion that became evident after being with the part-time Shillington teaching team for over 5 years. Kieryn enjoys the energy students bring and the mentoring side of teaching, helping passionate people realise their ambition.
What do you love about design?
I really enjoy solving design problems. Most of the time it’s like putting together a big jigsaw in a logical way so that people can understand what you’re saying at a glimpse.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
Currently I’m back in advertising land as a Senior Designer/Art Director and supplementing that with freelance when I can. Prior to that I was Creative Directer globally for Flight Centre Limited. And before that I was a Studio Manager and Senior Designer at Sapient Nitro.
What or who are you loving right now?
I love the Geo Aztec trend. I also love that brands are becoming less afraid of colour—neons/pastels and clashing!
If you were a typeface what would you be?
😛 (Good dad joke!)
What’s your favourite blog?
I don’t really follow one particular blog. But I do love Instagram. It’s opened up my creative world! I follow some very cool stylists and interior designers on there that really inspire me. I spend my whole commute looking at prettiness!
