What do you love about design?
Problem solving, developing ideas, crafting typography, pushing briefs as far as you can…it’s a satisfying balancing act. I’m also a big fan of clunky typography and clashing colours at the moment.
Why do you teach?
I love the enthusiasm you get from students—everything is new and exciting, and anything is possible. It’s really inspiring to see great student work.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
I am a freelance designer and have worked for studios including Burgess Studio, Johnson Banks, and The Creators Club. Personal highlights so far have included environmental graphics for a children’s charity, a series of short videos for the musician James Blake, and an identity for the best deli in Shropshire. I also have a few of my own clients, and I am studying for an MA at the Royal College of Art.

If you were a typeface, what would you be?
Univers 45 Light.
What’s your favourite blog?
Art of the Title is a great resource for title-sequences, very helpful for any moving image or animated typography projects.
