Learn from designers with industry expertise.

I know how a good school experience can change ones own perception of themselves. I want to be a part of an education system that allows students to feel empowered, autonomous and proud.

Anna Meyer

Anna Meyer is a designer, illustrator and author with over 8 years of experience in both agency and in-house design where she worked as both a senior designer and design manager. On top of her design experience, Anna is an avid illustrator and comic artist working on her debut graphic novel set to publish in 2024.

What do you love about design?

I get to solve problems through a visual medium. Design can be practical, emotional, utilitarian and beautiful all at once.

It’s also really fun.

Why do you teach?

I was always a terrible student until I went to design school. For the first time in my life I was able to succeed in school because the classes were structured in a way that fit me—I was working on visual and tangible projects. I know how a good school experience can change ones own perception of themselves. I want to be a part of an education system that allows students to feel empowered, autonomous and proud.

Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.

I started as a design intern at a branding agency in Cleveland where I worked my way up to senior designer. There, I focused mainly on rebrands and brand refreshes as well as campaign design. I then shifted over to the tech industry where I worked as an in-house design manager. I hired and managed junior designers while also working on high level design solutions. I left in 2021 to pursue comics and freelance full time after my graphic novel pitch was picked up by a publisher.

What or who are you loving right now?

Comics. Persepolis for something classic. Himawari House for something sweet. Coyote Doggirl for something silly. Don’t Go Without Me for something cerebral. And Beautiful Darkness for something, well, dark and beautiful.

If you were a typeface, what would you be?

Labil Grotesk; classic and just a little off.

What’s your favourite blog?

I love fontsinuse.com. Of course it’s a great way to find a new typeface, but I love how they collect both new and vintage designs for reference.
