Hear straight from our graduates.

Since studying at Shillington I’m able to work better with photographers, clients and other designers on creative briefs.

Director, Studio Maybe

Meg Yonson

Why Shillington? What made you choose to study with us?

I decided to enrol at Shillington due to the flexibility it allowed me alongside my full-time work. I was able to study part-time, after work and do homework on weekends. It was a very intensive practical course that enables you to change careers or seriously upskill within a 9 month time frame.

What have you been up to since graduation? How has your life changed after Shillington? Tell us about Studio Maybe.

Since graduating from Shillington I’ve been able to hone my creative process with my recipe development and work more on creative direction with projects.

I also started a small homewares company making kitchen equipment using recycled plastic. Studying design helped in defining the brand’s mission, audience and unique selling points, as well as helping me to design cool products.

You have a background in Nutritional Medicine, how did studying at Shillington differ from studying at a more traditional university?

I also studied a bachelor’s in nutritional medicine when I first left high school. It was a very full-on 3-year science degree. And while I really loved that course, what I do love about the Shillington course is that it provided me with an entirely new career path within 9 months part-time, compared to a traditional university degree of 3 years plus.

What was your experience of the on campus course like? Tell us about it.

I loved my experience learning on the Shillington campus in Sydney. I had amazing classmates and really great teachers. Being on campus meant I learnt so much from how my classmates interpreted briefs and I annoyed my teachers by constantly asking for their advice and direction when I felt stuck. I felt totally supported and felt like I couldn’t fall behind in the classwork with the support around me.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone starting at Shillington, what would it be?

If you’re thinking about starting at Shillington, I really recommend you go to one of the Info Sessions, I personally found it really helpful at understanding the course. I also had a friend that had completed the course and I picked her brain about it a lot before enrolling so I recommend reaching out to graduates or the Shillington staff if you have any specific questions.
