Natalia Zuluaga
Natalia is originally from Colombia, where she worked for various design agencies before moving to London in 2012. With over ten years of design experience, she is the misfit graphic designer who loves bridging design, creativity, and business into a seamless ecosystem. In her previous role, she built from scratch a creative team of 20 people in four years, where she managed and directed projects that covered many creative disciplines — branding, print, digital, advertising, animation, video, and social.
At Shillington, you can find her teaching the Sunday Part-time class in London and leading various project teams across disciplines and campuses.
What do you love about design?
I love how design can inspire change and transform societies.
Why do you teach?
Throughout my career I’ve met a lot of amazing people that have mentored me and helped me become a better design professional. Teaching is my way of enabling and nurturing designers to thrive in the never-ending complex environment we live in.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
Outside Shillington I divide my time between mentoring designers in different programmes—mainly Kerning The Gap, a community advocating for getting more women in leadership roles within the design industry. And working as a strategic design management consultant for small and medium organisations in London.
I’m also a member of the Board of Advisors of the DMI: Design Management Institute—a global non-profit organisation connecting, promoting, and elevating the role of Design, Design Management and Design Innovation in business, culture and society.
What or who are you loving right now?
I keep my creative mind alive by reading science fiction. I’m currently reading the Broken Earth Trilogy by N. K. Jemisin.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
