The joy of sharing skills and connecting with others serves as a constant motivation in my life.
Graphic Design Teacher
Sydney
Missy Dempsey
With a multifaceted career spanning graphic design, art direction and illustration, Missy Dempsey has a passion for colour, kerning and cake. She has a studio in Surry Hills where she produces a range of graphic, illustration and motion design.
What do you love about design? Its ability to organise complex information in a beautiful, ordered way.
Why do you teach?
My passion for teaching ignited fairly recently after facilitating workshops in Sydney and Dubai. The joy of sharing skills and connecting with others serves as a constant motivation in my life.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
If I’m not working on client projects you can find me drawing, working on a new exhibition or watching videos about factories on YouTube (How they coat the McVities biscuits in chocolate is fascinating!).
What or who are you loving right now?
I share a studio space in Surry Hills with some very talented creatives who inspire me every day! @peitablythe map illustration, @micke_lindebergh illustration, @danielknew book design to name a few.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
Gotham Black, but in pink or orange. Gotham Orange.
What’s your favourite blog?
Not a blog but I love Toilet Paper Magazine – it’s bright and weird. Gabby Lord’s emails are A+ and she has tonnes of resources on her site. Not design related exactly, but Tim Ferriss’ 5 bullet Friday has some wise nuggets that feed the creative fire.
