Graphic Design Teacher
Mehul Patel is from Birmingham and currently works as an Interaction Designer at Co-op Digital in Manchester alongside teaching at Shillington part-time. Following graduating from Shillington himself in 2015, he has worked in agencies and start-ups over the last 4 years. Prior to this, he spent time teaching English in Asia and developed a real interest in graphic design whilst completing architecture internships in China and Malta. He finds the opportunity to contribute and be a part of a students journey truly inspiring and rewarding.
What do you love about design?
Going through the process of starting with nothing and creating something which can help somebody achieve their goals.
Why do you teach?
The opportunity to contribute and be a part of a students journey is amazing. Others sharing knowledge and experiences with myself has always inspired me and been crucial to my development as a designer so I’d love to do the same.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
I always knew I had to do something creative as a career and I thought I’d fulfil this by studying architecture. I discovered that it wasn’t what I wanted and after seeing an ad for Shillington in a magazine in 2013, I knew from then I had to do the course. I completed the course in 2015 and since then have worked in agencies and start-up environments.
