I love talking, looking, thinking about design, and mostly, the people I have met because of design.

Clare Terry
Clare Terry is the Director of Shillington, Australia. Initially trained as an interior designer, Clare made the transition to graphic design over 19 years ago and has never looked back. A designer with a love of clever ideas simply and beautifully executed, she cut her design teeth working in the property sector for a boutique Sydney studio. Over the years Clare has been lucky to work within various industries across a broad spectrum of clients, during this time forming strong and lasting relationships with likeminded creatives. This love of working with people has taken Clare to Shillington where she loves nothing more than to teach and inspire young creatives.
What do you love about design?
I love that design continues to reinvent and reveal itself to me in unexpected ways. Just when I think I’ve seen it all, I’m reminded of the endless possibilities and countless opportunities that design presents. I love talking, looking, thinking about design, and mostly, the people I have met because of design.
Why do you teach?
I teach because I love to—teaching is a wonderful challenge and sharing knowledge, ideas and inspiration is utterly addictive. But the best thing about teaching is that it has enabled me to never stop learning.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
Since graduating with a shiny new portfolio in 2000 I have worked in small studios, advertising agencies, run a boutique branding agency and my own design business. This career has seen me work across a full gamut of clients and get involved in everything from black and white business cards to branded bus wraps.
What or who are you loving right now?
This is going to sound cheesy, but… I can not get enough of the beautiful work our students consistently produce.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
I’d like to think I’m versatile and practical like Futura, if only I shared her stunning proportions!
What’s your favourite blog?
For home grown talent, a great read and beautiful photography, The Design Files is my most welcomed daily email.
