What do you love about design?
I see design as visual problem solving, and I enjoy the process of solving those problems with creative thinking. Every client brief is different which means no project is ever the same.
Why do you teach?
I love learning and find that in helping others learn, I learn a lot myself.
Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.
For the past 14 years I’ve worked in both small agencies and larger ones, in Australia, the UK and the US. Alongside my commercial projects I run my own experimental publishing imprint, I believe self initiated work adds a valuable dimension to a designers practice.
What or who are you loving right now?
Anything Benjamin Critton or Fraser Muggeridge does.
If you were a typeface, what would you be?
It depends what day of the week it is, most days probably Gerstner Programm: old school and no fluff.
What’s your favourite blog?
Have to mention It’s Nice That, for all round interesting design articles and news. Also, Fonts in Use, they have an extensive collection of references including fonts that have not been digitised. I can easily lose a few days on that site. For more tangible design references, I love books of any kind, particularly old ones.
