At Shillington, our teachers are industry-experienced graphic designers who create an inspiring, engaging and supportive classroom environment. It’s design education turned upside down.
Read on to meet three amazing teachers! Alessia Mazzarella is an Italian independent typeface and graphic designer with a master’s in typeface design—and co-founder of Typeland. Laura Moore is a multi-disciplinary designer living in NYC—currently designing for advertising agency OBERLAND. And Rachel Broaders—originally from Ireland, where she worked for 3 years in design before joining Shillington!
Alessia Mazzarella is an Italian independent typeface and graphic designer, with several years of experience in type design and font engineering. She has previously worked as a senior type designer at Fontsmith, as a senior font developer at The Northern Block, and has developed original typefaces for URW Asterisk and Google Fonts. She holds an MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading, in addition to degrees in Graphic Design from Central Saint Martins, London, and Graphic & Media Design from Sapienza University of Rome.
Alessia created Amifer—a 10-style sans serif family that brings together characterful letterforms without compromising the clarity and contemporary style of the sans genre. Carefully designed quirky features add a voice and personality that distinguish Amifer from the plethora of uninspired and interchangeable sans designs. The family is particularly well suited to use in contemporary branding across a range of uses where a recognisable sans can be a strong design asset.

Shillington Online Teacher
I love seeing people surprise themselves and open their minds to new ways of doing things. Design allows us to see everyday things from a unique and interesting perspective.
Rachel Broaders is from Ireland, where she worked for 3 years in design before joining Shillington! She worked in various Dublin-based studios such as Atelier, Detail and Together We Create, where she gained experience in book design, branding and art direction. Her main passion within design is branding but has an ever-expanding interest in all facets of the industry. She has found a new love in teaching and finds it to be one of the most rewarding things she’s done to date.
On this project, Rachel created and designed the print and digital outputs including invites, e-vites, web, typographic layouts and colour treatments. A series of still images and slow motion videos were also created for this project, for which she was on shoot to assist the artt director, photographer and director of photography.
