Best decision I ever made! Got me where I want to be. Loved every minute. So worth it!
Can’t rate Shillington highly enough. When I first started in the industry creative directors were consistently gobsmacked at the industry-ready skills we’d managed to learn in such a relatively short amount of time.
If you are passionate about design DO IT. If you do not have time to go back to school for years DO IT.
Going to Shillington was hands down one of the best decisions of my life (and I’m not being dramatic, it really was). When I decided to change career paths, I didn’t have the time or patience to go back to university and waste another 3-4 years of my life, so Shillington felt like the right fit for me.
When you read the reviews that sound too good to be true, don’t worry. Shillington really stands up the reviews and exceeds them.
As a self-taught designer, I felt “meh” in the few jobs I had, so I wanted to work in better places. But I needed the portfolio to do it. I had also wanted to actually study design, but going back and getting another bachelor’s degree (I already have 2!) seemed ridiculous. So when I saw a 3 month (full time) opportunity to be where I wanted, I jumped on it. Now, I’m writing this from my job at a creative agency–and feel very comfortable in my skillset. In short, if you want to be a graphic designer, this is an excellent, economic, efficient choice!
The only thing I walked into Shillington with was the will to learn the Adobe Creative Suite.
Literally, I had zero experience. After a whirlwind three months, I feel confident in my design abilities and understanding of design principles.
You learn the language you need to professionally communicate in the field and various creative brainstorming techniques that will enhance your process. The like-minded people and friendships I formed through Shillington was the cherry on top.
Almost one year ago, I graduated from Shillington in New York. One of those big career changes that someone my age isn’t supposed to make. Good thing I’m so bad at listening. This week, my first rebranding proposal was approved by a well-known New York arts organization, and I am completely fulfilled by design work.
As a parent and full-time worker, this change could not have happened without Shillington’s part-time program.
I can’t tell you how much the Shillington experience translates directly to studio/agency life. I felt so prepared stepping into my new role as a graphic designer and it shows in my work.
From day one I was happy, happier than I’d been for a long time.
I got to do creative things every day and talk about creative things with creative people, it was heaven. I honestly couldn’t get enough. I learned so much over those 3 months and met some fantastic people. The tutors were outstanding and I really do feel that the course was worth every penny and to top it all off, I was able to leave with a portfolio of work that was enough to get my foot in the door of the creative industry.
Amazing experience! You learn everything you need to become a successful graphic designer. I loved my 3-month experience there, and wish I could do it again!
I knew I wanted graphic design to be the focus of my career. Enter Shillington, the perfect school to propel me into my coveted career as a designer. Comparing other school options was not even necessary, as Shillington offered everything I was searching for.
If anyone has an interest in design I would highly encourage them to study at Shillington—it was one of the best decisions I have made and I would do it again and again.
I moved from Vancouver to study at Shillington Brisbane on the Working Holiday Visa, and I would say definitely study abroad if you can.
It’s an incredible experience that you won’t forget. There will be challenges, it may not be as affordable as staying at home but if it’s something you want to do just go for it.
I can’t say enough nice things about Shillington. Their teachers are incredibly inspiring, passionate and patient. I left their course with a huge amount of confidence – far more than I’d received from any University course. I’m so thankful to have found this course.
I can remember the fear I felt in the weeks prior to starting the course. Would I really become a designer in 3 months? Would I actually get a job after graduating, and if so, WHEN? Have I just blown my life savings on a course that promises something that sounds too good to be true? Well, almost a year on from leaving I can say that Shillington worked for me better than I could have ever imagined. Before Shillington, I was working at a WHSmiths, wondering everyday what went wrong with my life. And now I’m working at as a designer at an agency called I Love Dust doing work for Nike and a bunch of other great clients, wondering everyday how I ever ended up here. Everything in my life changed so fast and I owe it to the teachers at Shillington for giving me the knowledge and the skills to make that happen.
