Princeton Architectural Press is seeking a full-time Designer (junior to mid-level) to work on a broad range of illustrated publishing projects within the sphere of art, design, architecture, photography, visual culture, stationery, and packaging.

Role Details

Princeton Architectural Press (Hudson, NY and Manhattan) is seeking a full-time Designer (junior to mid-level) to work on a broad range of illustrated publishing projects within the sphere of art, design, architecture, photography, visual culture, stationery, and packaging. Primary duties are to assist the in-house design team at various stages, from research to design, to typesetting and production. PAPress is a highly collaborative, team-oriented work environment that requires good interpersonal and communication skills, as well as an ability to prioritize and take initiative. Ideal applicants for this position have a strong interest in print, book, publication, and/or packaging design, along with a degree or background in graphic design.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 

1) Design: 
• Book covers/jackets/interior layouts, stationery products and packaging
• Sales and marketing materials for print, email, web, and social media
• Ideation for book and stationery products

2) Production: 
• Typographic composition and typesetting
• Comp book jackets/covers, interior spreads, and stationery products
• Assist in photographing book and product shots
• Editorial text corrections
• Work with production to ensure accurate product development
• Prepare materials and prototypes for book fairs
• Assist in photographing book and product shots

3) Research: 
• Participate in discussions with editorial, production, design, and sales and marketing team members
• Scout art for book or stationery projects
• Study background information for individual projects

Skill/Attributes Required

REQUIRED SKILLS: 
• 2-3 years of design experience
• Impeccable typography and layout skills
• Expert knowledge of InDesign + Adobe Creative Suite
• Thorough attention to detail
• Knowledge of book or magazine print production
• Excellent organizational time and management skills
• Ability to work in a fluid environment and under tight deadlines
• Proficiency with HTML/CSS
• A love of books and the form of the book
