boom saloon is a global movement to democratise creativity for good. An ambitious non-profit, we publish a print magazine and run a creative studio specialising in design, editorial and strategy. Profits from these facilitate our community projects, which use creativity to inspire and empower those facing challenges.

Role Details

As part of the Government’s Kickstart scheme, we are looking for a Design Assistant to help evolve our design efforts to date. Typical responsibilities will include: work across both digital and print design projects from concept to completion, supporting our existing team and collaborating with freelancers; producing drafts, prototypes and engaging design solutions; design development of internal boom saloon documentation; supporting the wider team with assets required for various documentation and digital marketing; support throughout the full design process for client briefs; ongoing research into the design sector, business models and contemporaries.
This job placement will give true insight into the fast paced growth of a young creative company, with a community based around the world. Although days will be structured, each will be unique in input – affording our Design Assistant experience across a wealth of projects. They will work in close collaboration with the rest of the boom saloon team, ensuring cohesion across the brand and refined aesthetics in our work to democratise creativity for good.

Skill/Attributes Required

Previous design employment is desirable but not essential; a mastery of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is vital. The Design Assistant should have a working knowledge of print and digital production best-practices and techniques alongside an ability to work to deadline across multiple projects. We are looking for someone with a meticulous eye for detail who’s passionate about the potential of design and how it advances our world. They must be able to work as part of a team and should have strong creativity skills and problem solving ability. Above and beyond all of this is a strong understanding of what we do at boom saloon and, most importantly, why – belief in this mission is vital for all members of our team.
