Learn from designers with industry expertise.

I enjoy teaching for the same reason I enjoy learning about graphic design—it’s a fascinating subject you can continue to learn about throughout your career.

What do you love about design?

At it’s best, good design can help solve global and day-to-day problems. It can educate, inform and improve things for people.

Why do you teach?

I enjoy teaching for the same reason I enjoy learning about graphic design—it’s a fascinating subject you can continue to learn about throughout your career.

Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.

I started my career as a designer at Zero-G (Dublin) after graduating in 2006. After working in Dublin for a couple of years I moved to London in 2008 where I worked in a number of studios including dn&co. Since moving to Melbourne in 2013, I have been working for clients from my studio in Fitzroy and occasionally collaborating with other studios and designers.

What or who are you loving right now?

As an Irish designer, I frequently visit and contribute to the 100 Archive, which is a living archive documenting the work of Irish designers around the world. There is another project, an archive of Australian graphic design material, called Re:Collection, by Hofstede.

If you were a typeface what would you be?

That’s a difficult one. I certainly wouldn’t be my namesake Harrington which was one of fonts that came free with Microsoft Office. It’s quite unfortunate that I have to share my name with a typeface like this!

What’s your favourite blog?

I visit different blogs for different reasons. As the name suggests, BP&O is great for Branding, Packaging and (refreshingly) Opinion. Fonts in Use is an independent archive of typography with examples of how it’s been used in the real world. I’m a long-time follower of Site Inspire which showcases the best in website and interactive design.
