What do you love about design?

I love the process of problem solving and communicating that solution through a variety of different mediums. I believe design plays a big role in shaping and defining the way we live our lives. It’s exciting to be apart of that development and decision making.

Why do you teach?

Watching students evolve and develop from start to finish. Seeing the positive outcomes and the personal gain they receive after being challenged by something new. I get the opportunity to mentor a variety of interesting people with unique backgrounds while fine tuning my own professional skills at the same time.

Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.

I started in brand and packaging as a junior, working in a few studios across Melbourne. I was mentored by some of Australia’s most talented designers before moving onto freelance and part running a small studio. In my spare time I’m an illustrator, so I tend to breathe design into all areas of my life.

What or who are you loving right now?

Curiously I’m loving anything to do with VR, AR or gaming at the moment.  It’s an exciting (yet frightening), area of design that I’m yet to cross but enjoying being on the user end.

In terms of graphic design I’m loving Camilla Walala, she’s doing some rad work with colour in urban environments.

If you were a typeface, what would you be?

Avant Garde because I’m so art – it’s not funny.

What’s your favourite blog?

I’ve gone down the big rabbit hole that is gurafiku and bpando.
