Learn from designers with industry expertise.

I love the fact I get to solve problems all the time. A website is basically a big jigsaw with many parts that combine to produce an online experience.

What do you love about design?

I love the fact I get to solve problems all the time. A website is basically a big jigsaw with many parts that combine to produce an online experience.

Why do you teach?

It’s all about having a captive audience, a stage and a microphone… oh I mean it’s all about the joy of giving knowledge.

Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.

Apart from my role as Director of Digital at Shillington I also run a design and development business called Sixheads with my wife. In addition to projects where we handle the design and build, I work with a lot of studios translating their website designs into code. I’m what’s called a Unicorn… designer and developer.

What or who are you loving right now?

I’m really interested in all the animation now appearing on websites. I still remember the Flash days when crap flew in all over the place. Good online animation now really supports the UI communicating functionality to the user.

If you were a typeface, what would you be?

Proxima Nova. One of the mostly commonly used web fonts of the moment.

What’s your favourite blog?

That is a hard one to answer. Firstly I like to go old school and use an RSS reader to pull in the 80 different blogs I follow. Most of the ones I like are nerdy web focused sites such as Smashing Magazine or CSS Tricks. But I also find architecture really inspiring so maybe Archdaily.
