Learn from designers with industry expertise.

I teach because I love design—because I want everyone else to love it as much as me.

What do you love about design?

I love that design can be used for positive change; used to solve problems and used to communicate messages. I love that it can be creatively challenging but also subtle and understated—because design is everywhere, everything uses design, this keeps you on your toes, keeps you learning and pushing yourself.

Why do you teach?

I teach because I love design—because I want everyone else to love it as much as me. I think that design thinking is a very important and useful whether applied to design or other professions.

Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.

I work for the Guardian designing and building (developing) digital things. Whilst my day to day is digital design I also work on branding and print design away from the Guardian. My background is in brand design—which is something I am keen to keep within my design practice as I think it gives you the most interesting and creative challenges when rolling an idea across all platforms and mediums.

What or who are you loving right now?

In design—Willy Fleckhaus/ Always—Aaron Sorkin.

If you were a typeface, what would you be?

Knockout.

What’s your favourite blog?

I quite like The Guardian. I use Visuelle a lot.
