Learn from designers with industry expertise.

Shillington really resonates with me as it fosters a studio-like environment; briefs with timescales similar to real life, and all the teachers are practicing designers, giving live updates from the front-line.

What do you love about design?

I love the problem solving aspect; making stuff look good for a specific reason, communicating an idea in the most appropriate way. It’s also just such a fun, creative industry to work in, with endless variation and opportunities!

Why do you teach?

When I left university and went to work in a studio I learned so much from the people around me and the projects we were working on, in a really short space of time. Shillington really resonates with me as it fosters a studio-like environment; briefs with timescales similar to real life, and all the teachers are practicing designers, giving live updates from the front-line.

Tell us about your design career outside of Shillington.

I worked for Human After All for many years, I now work as a freelance illustrator and designer. I also work with Anorak on a magazine for toddlers, called DOT.

What or who are you loving right now?

We Found a Hat by Jon Klassen, a great kids book which adults enjoy just as much (if not more) featuring deadpan humour and gorgeous illustrations.

If you were a typeface, what would you be?

Buenos Airies by Luzi type. Minimal, rounded and friendly.

What’s your favourite blog?

I really love all of the Under Consideration blogs, they never let me down when I’m in need of inspiration.
