Hear straight from our graduates.
The course is fast but the teachers do an amazing job making sure that no one is left behind before moving on to the next topic. Plus the fast-paced environment makes for a very immersive experience—you live and breathe design for 3 (or 9) months and you finish up with an amazing portfolio!

What were you up to before Shillington?
At uni I studied law and journalism but realised quite soon that I wanted to do something more creative. So I ended up at an agency via content strategy and copy writing. After a while I transitioned to UX design, which is what I did just before I went to Shillington.
Why did you decide to study design? Why Shillington?
UX design is very analytical at times and I always envied my visual design colleagues for being able to turn ideas into not just wireframes but finished designs. Plus coming from a non-design background I always felt a little insecure about calling myself a designer. After all I never had any education about visual design principles nor could I design in any of the adobe programs. But having spent 4 years of my life at university already I didn’t want to do another uni course. Shillington was perfect with its three months courses and the student portfolios spoke for themselves.
How did you land the job at Rexlabs?
After finishing up the full time course I was contacted by a recruiter who introduced me to Rexlabs. Two interviews later I had the job and officially started as a Product Designer, which is a mix of UX and UI. A couple of weeks in our Brand Designer left so I jumped at the opportunity to also do some more creative projects and am now half Brand Designer and half Product Designer.
What’s your favourite thing about being a designer?
I love to create. And by that I mean translating something that only exist in someone’s head into something that everyone can look at. There is nothing more satisfying than hearing a client or your boss say ‘this is exactly what I had in mind’.
What would you say to someone who is sceptical about Shillington’s fast-paced course?
The course is fast but the teachers do an amazing job making sure that no one is left behind before moving on to the next topic. Plus the fast-paced environment makes for a very immersive experience—you live and breathe design for 3 (or 9) months and you finish up with an amazing portfolio!
