Hear straight from our graduates.
Shillington was one of the best experiences of my life and I’m very glad I did it.
Visual Designer, Great Wrap
Benjamin Ngooi
What were you up to before Shillington?
Working as an Occupational Therapist.
Why did you decide to study design? Why Shillington?
I had a keen interest in design and enjoy photography as a hobby. I had friends who were in the creative industry and I felt really interested in what some designer friends did for work. Someone recommended Shillington – upon further research, the time frames and intensity was very appealing to me. Also the ongoing quality of work coming out from Shillington was very impressive.
How did you find the job hunt after graduating?
I finished up at Shillington in December 2018 so decided to take things slow throughout the summer—I focused on refining my portfolio. I decided to freelance for the first few months whilst I looked for a design job. I just sent lots of emails and responded to as many posts on forums and design groups as I could. Once I got a couple of small jobs—it seemed to flow from there. A lot of the jobs were through someone’s recommendation of me so that just continued. I eventually landed here at Cox Architecture through someone I met from a freelance job.
What would you say to someone thinking of studying at Shillington?
Absolutely do it. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I’m very glad I did it. I met incredible people that I’m still really close with. It’s an intense period and you will definitely be stretched and challenged, but you leave feeling very proud of what you’ve achieved.
